I haven’t mentioned this in a while, but in addition to wedding and event planning (and a few other things), I also make hand-made lace. The kind I make (there are many, many kinds!) is called tatting. I’ve been doing it for years, and it’s a fun thing to do with my hands.
Tatting is a kind of lace that is made from hundreds and hundreds of tiny knots pulled into loops and chains. It takes hours to make a small doily or edging. But it cannot be replicated by machines. It requires the human hand to bring it into being.
I have a few pieces that I use as examples, but what I really like is creating custom pieces. If you see something here that sparks an idea for something you would like to have–for a wedding or for anything–let me know. I’d be happy to make something that would be a family heirloom.
Prices for custom pieces depend on the size and complexity of the work. Feel free to get in touch if you have questions.

Here's the first item I have for sale on Etsy. Photo by Light on Life Images.
Goodness knows, I’ve teased you enough times with hints of my tatted lace wedding accessories. This time, though, it’s for real. My Etsy shop is open and I have items for sale. I’m putting them on sale one at a time, so please visit often to see what’s new.
It takes a long, long time to make pieces of tatting, so I will always have a small stock of items. I will have wedding accessories, gifts, items for the home, and (eventually) some other things that will be completely different. I have tons of ideas, but it takes a long time to bring them to fruition.
I hope you enjoy my lace creations. I also do custom work, so if you see something that’s almost perfect for you, let me know. I can probably create something that is just right. Visit often, and please make me one of your Favorites.

I’ve been sending out teasers from time to time about my tatted lace. Really, it will be on Etsy before you know it.

But I also teach tatting, for those who want to make some of this beautiful art for themselves. I have two classes scheduled at Pamela Penney Textile Arts in Oak Park. The classes are scheduled for Tuesday, February 21, 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, February 29, 1:00 p.m.
In a two-hour class, you will be able to learn all the basics of tatted lace, along with some of its history and trivia. If you’re interested, I encourage you to sign up now for the class.

Did you think I forgot about my lace wedding accessories? Not at all! But it takes a long time to make tatted lace, and I have been busy building up inventory before putting them up for sale. (Look for me on Etsy very soon!) Here’s another sneak preview.
Handmade ring-bearer's pillow with tatted lace medallion and edging.
Remember the garter I posted about? This is a coordinating ring-bearer’s pillow. The ribbons are for tying the rings onto the pillow. They can also be removed easily, so you can even use this as a decorative cushion in your home after you are married. Here’s another shot:

I even expect to be able to do these in custom colors to match any wedding decor. If you want more information, be sure to drop me an e-mail.

I have another part of my business besides wedding and event planning. I also make handmade lace wedding accessories. Lace wedding garters will go on sale very soon.
Pale blue wedding garter with handmade tatted lace
Above is a photo of a garter. The lace is all made by hand (by me, of course). Tatted lace is made of thousands of knots on very tiny thread. Each garter contains about 17,000 knots! The lace is attached to satin ribbon, and the garter has a soft cotton backing. The garter is entirely constructed by hand.
Here is a close-up:

These garters are unique wedding accessories, unlike anything else you will find, anywhere. If you are interested in these garters, please contact me at Lace<at>LisaGordonEvents<dot>com. I will have more information available soon, so check back.
