“But You’re So Calm!”

It’s not a new photo, but my attitude hasn’t changed: I’m being calm here. Photo courtesy of Artisan Events, Inc.

Here’s a funny story from last year’s wedding season.  I was introduced to the brother of one of the brides before the ceremony began.  I had been doing my thing for a couple of hours already, and everything was in place when I had the chance to stop and meet him.  We shook hands, and when he found out what my role was he said, “You’re the planner??  But you’re so calm!”

I’m not entirely sure how he thought I should behave.  Maybe there’s a stereotype of a wedding planner who runs around chaotically looking flustered.  (I’ve never run into one who behaves that way in real life.)  But he certainly said it in an approving way, which was quite flattering.

So, I said to him, “Well, yes, I am calm.  If I’m not calm, then no one else is going to be calm, either.  If I’m running around in a tizzy, everyone else is going to be feeling unsettled, too.”  He nodded and agreed, although it was clear he hadn’t thought of it that way before.

I really do taking being calm seriously when I’m on site for a wedding.  There are a lot of emotions packed into a wedding day, and people can be on edge.  Someone has to be the anchor and the ground wire for all of that, and that’s what I try to be.  (Professional officiants are also really, really good at this.)

And there are a lot of moving parts that sometimes people worry about.  As one of my clients said one time, “We have outsourced all our worrying to Lisa.”  I loved that!  Yes, you can outsource your worrying to me.  I won’t worry; I’ll just take care of stuff for you so no one has to worry.  That’s my job.  And I’ll be very, very calm, while I’m doing it, too.

Winter musings.

It has been a terrific year of weddings and events here.  Looking back on it, all I can say is that I’m very grateful.

First, I’m grateful to my amazing, awesome clients.  Thank you for allowing me to share your wedding day with you.  It has been my privilege to work with you, your families and friends, and everyone else who supported you on your day.  You’re all the best!

I’m no less grateful to all of the talented, hard-working, and fun wedding vendors I’ve been able to work with this year.  And I don’t just mean the business owner or the person they sent to the wedding.  I’m also thinking of the venue maintenance people, security guards, drivers, bartenders, servers, sound engineers, kitchen workers, tent installers, and the delivery, bus, and limo drivers.  I couldn’t do my job without all of these people, as well as the venue managers, rental specialists, chefs, banquet captains, officiants, church wedding coordinators, DJs, musicians, photographers, videographers, florists, decorators, bakers, hair stylists, and make-up artists.  I may be the person holding it all together, but there would be nothing to hold together if it weren’t for all of you!

I’m looking forward to another great year in 2020.  I have some really interesting events lined up already, and I’m sure there will be even more.  If you’re thinking about hiring me, yes, I do still have some dates available.  Let me know how I can help.

I Will Be on the (Internet) Radio!

This is me, making my very best radio face! (Photo by Jamie Davis if Greenhouse Loft Photography.)

Out of the blue last week, I got a call from an internet radio producer asking if I’d like to be interviewed on the radio.  Would I ever!  So, I’m booked for an interview around 2:30 (Central Time) on All Business Media FM.  If you can’t catch the interview live, it’ll be in their archives after a week or so.  If you have the chance to listen to it, please let me know what you think!

I’m Back!

Did you miss me?  With the new website and all the back end things that needed to be worked out, I wasn’t able to post anything new on the blog for a couple of weeks.  Not a lot to say right now, but I’ll be back to regular posts soon!

I’m very pleased to announce my new 2018 pricing for day-of (“month-of”) coordinating services.  For 2018, coordinating services will be priced at $1,350.

My coordinating package includes set-up and coordination on the wedding day for up to eight hours, along with one assistant; pre-wedding vendor confirmation and coordination. up to one hour of wedding rehearsal; timelines, schedules, and layouts for you and for your vendors; one one-hour meeting at the venue; and unlimited phone calls, texts, and emails from contract signing through the wedding day.

That, of course, is just the flat fee for the standard package.  I am always willing to craft a custom package to suit your particular circumstances.  My only caveat is that I don’t give discounts.

Okay, I just lied!!  I do give just one particular discount.  When you get in touch with me, if you mention a friend(/acquaintance/co-worker/neighbor/relative/etc.) of yours who used my services in the past, I will be happy to give you the 2017 coordinating rate in 2018.  Past clients, please take note:  Your friends can get a discount on my services if they mention your name.  Let them know they can get a good deal.  This offer is good until the end of 2018.

Finally, due to to circumstances beyond my control, the prices on the Money page of my website are out of date. I would update them if I could, but it’s not possible right now.  So, please take note of the current prices here.  As always, I’m happy to answer questions if you want to get in touch.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I’d like to wish a happy Thanksgiving to one and all.  It’s the season of gratitude, so I’d like to say that I’m very grateful for all my clients–past and future–who trust me with the planning and management of their weddings and other celebrations.  It’s an honor to participate in your happy occasion.  And I’m grateful for the ability to earn a living helping people throw parties, and helping them solve the sometimes thorny problems that come between them and the celebration they are imagining.

Thank you to everyone and enjoy your Thanksgiving!
