Okay, so technically this is not just a resource for weddings, events, and parties.  It’s for everyone, all the time.  And it’s not glamorous.  I’m talking about the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (or SWANNC).  Even for people who don’t live in Northern Cook County, this website has a huge amount of information that is useful.

There is a directory of resources for reusing and recycling that covers everything from Appliances and Automobiles through Fire extinguishers, Make-up containers, and Shoes to Wood recycling and Yard waste.  Many of the resources are local, but many can be found regionally or nationally.  My favorite discovery so far is places you can take polystyrene (Styrofoam) to be downcycled into other materials.

If you look under business resources, you will also find a Green Meeting Guide and a Zero Waste Event Guide.  They are designed for use by businesses and mostly for corporate events, but there are some good tips that would also be useful for social events.  Check them out if you’re planning a party and want to go green.

If you have questions about recycling, about donating goods, about composting–about pretty much anything that has to do with disposing of things–check out SWANNC and make them part of your next party.

Lakefront Wedding Photos!

September 11th, 2017

Did I promise you more photos from recent weddings?  These are just the ones I took myself from one of my recent weddings.  Professional photos will follow when I can get them.

I must confess that I loved this wedding.  It felt so authentic.  Everything the couple did reflected their personalities and their relationship.  It was all beautiful.  It was also completely unique.

The single most unusual thing about the wedding was the amount of hand-crafting that went into it.  Both bride and groom are crafty people.  The bride knits, so she made the gorgeous shawl you will see below.  The groom crochets, so not only did he make the bride’s bouquet out of crocheted flowers; he also crocheted all the flowers for the table decorations.  Take a look for yourself!

Photos of a Goth Gamers’ Wedding

October 3rd, 2016

I worked on the nicest wedding a couple weeks ago.  The couple are gamers, so their wedding had a bit of a goth feel to it, although nothing elaborate.  I’m not sure if you can see it in the photos, but one of the most fun things they did was ask their gamer friends to dress up.  Even with minimal decor in the space, there was always a lot to look at!

These are the photos taken by my assistant, Shelby Glasgow, and myself.  (She took all the good ones.)  I hope to have the professional photos soon so you can see what it was really like.  This is just a taste.

Summer Wedding Photos

August 29th, 2016

I just worked on a very nice wedding a couple of weeks ago, and I want to share some of my photos with you.  The wedding was at the Kenilworth Club (one of my all-time favorite venues); Catered By Design provided the food and service; flowers were by Four Finches (another favorite of mine); Martini Lunch provided the dance music; and the cake was from Bittersweet Bakery.  I hope to have the professional photos from Studio Finch to share with you in the future.
